Nearly 50 Airports in Iran Making a Loss

New data released by the Iran’s National Airports Company shows that only six airports out 48 in the country turned a profit in the current Iranian year. The airports which weren’t in the red included, Imam Khomeini Airport, Mehrabad, Mashhad, Shiraz, Isfahan and Tabriz, according to the list.

Our Take

It is no surprise that dozens of airports in the country don’t make a profit as all of them have been run as state enterprises. It remains to be seen whether the Rouhani administration will sell operational licenses to private companies in the coming years.
