Religious Tourism is Untapped Opportunity

More than 2.1 million of Iranian pilgrims have made their way back into Iran after visiting Holy shrines in Iraq during the past week; that’s according to Iran’s Police Force who was closely monitoring the numbers of devout Muslims who are opting to walk to Karbala instead of visiting Mecca.

The sudden rise in the number of religious tourists visiting Iraq over the past two years has caught police forces of both Iran and Iraq off guard, however, both countries’ business sectors have failed to capitalise on commercialising the annual event.
