Tehran-Chalous Highway is 37% Complete

Iran’s Tehran-Chalous Highway is 37% complete according to engineers working on the project.

The long-awaited Tehran-Chalous Highway Project was originally devised before the Islamic Revolution of 1979. However, years of war and administrations with other pressing concerns put the project on the back burner for more than two decades.

Our Take

When completed, which according to current development estimates is going to be sometime late 2017, the new motorway will open up the Caspian Sea to Tehran’s middle class and enable further investment in the region as a whole. When it is fully open, the new road has the potential to spur economic growth to the economies of Mazandaran and Gilan.
